In order to uphold the mandate of the DOT under Republic Act 9593 that encourages global competitiveness, strengthens data gathering and research on tourism, and facilitates the promotion of individual enterprises and the industry as a whole, the Department shall prescribe and regulate standards for the operation of the tourism industry.
The DILG memorandum circular 2019-17 likewise states that, “LGUs have to ensure that all Primary Tourism Establishments have complied with and have obtained DOT accreditation before operations.”
The Department of Tourism Region III would like to inform the public that it is a mandatory requirement for all primary tourism establishments (accommodation, travel and tour agency, transport operators, tour guides, MICE facilities, sports facilities and transport operators) to be accredited in order to ensure compliance with the Department’s standards and that all primary tourism enterprises shall be periodically required to obtain accreditation from the Department to ensure the standards of their facilities and quality of services.
Through the said policy, the consumers or traveling public are ensured to receive and experience the quality of service and facilities as specified in the National Accommodation Standards and in accordance with the relevant tourism development plan.
